No Spoiler Description.

Time travel was supposed to be humanity’s greatest achievement. Instead, it became the key to uncovering the darkest of secrets.

Dr Garth Sewell has spent two decades perfecting Chronos, a functioning time machine. With his wife Ruth, a historian with an encyclopaedic recall of dates and details, and an AI assistant guiding the experiment, their first jump into 1819 Paris should be a historic triumph.

But something is wrong.

Ruth’s memory of the past doesn’t match what they see. Small details are off. Buildings appear different, too early. Events shift in ways that should be impossible. It’s as if someone has been quietly rewriting history, century by century, with surgical precision.

As Garth becomes consumed by the implications of their discovery, physicist Darek Palmer joins the investigation. Together, the team realises they may not be the first to walk the timestream, and that the world they now live in, with its clean air, peaceful societies and advanced technologies, may not be the result of human progress alone.

Every intervention has a cost.
The deeper they travel into the past and the future, the more they uncover a global pattern of control: a hidden architect using knowledge from tomorrow to shape humanity today. Not a myth, maybe a legend, but a sophisticated predator who treats the species as a resource and the timeline as a tool.

Caught between impossible choices, the team must confront a devastating question:

Do they fight to restore the original timeline, even if it condemns humanity to the disasters it once faced? Or do they accept a perfect present built on suffering they can no longer ignore?

The deeper they dig, the more they realise they're not observers of history. They're pawns in a game that began long before, the first time they were born.

What to Expect

Chronos: Threads of Time and Blood sits where hard science fiction, gothic influence and human drama intersect. The focus is on people under pressure: how they cope when the rules of cause and effect begin to slip, and what they’ll sacrifice for the version of the future they believe in.

This isn’t a story of paradox charts for their own sake; it’s a story about memory, obsession and the uncomfortable cost of a world that looks perfect on the surface.

About the Author

Gareth Wynne Jones is a writer, artist and web developer based in North Wales. With a background in psychology and sociology, his work often sits at the crossroads of human behaviour, speculative ideas and quietly obsessive worldbuilding.

Chronos: Threads of Time and Blood is his debut novel and the opening movement in a wider, interlinked tapestry of stories exploring time, control and the stories we tell ourselves about progress.

Content Note

Chronos: Threads of Time and Blood contains mature themes, including violence, systematic atrocities, disturbing imagery and complex ethical dilemmas. It explores the darker edge of utilitarian thinking and asks difficult questions about the price of safety and comfort.
